Composed in 1803, this work by the Czech-born František Vincenc Kramář (1759–1831) stands as a significant historical link between the clarinet works of Mozart and Weber. Pushing the technical boundaries of the 5- and 6-key clarinets of the era, Krommer demands rapid articulations, wide registral leaps, and an expressive, operatic lyricism from the soloist. It is a highly rewarding piece to perform, and I look forward to presenting it to the Scarsdale community.
